What's the Rush?

Think estate planning is only for older adults? You might be surprised to know that people of all ages can benefit from planning ahead.
  • Singles should consider who would make medical decisions in the event they are unable.
  • Married couples may consider how to set up each spouse for future financial success.
  • Parents should plan for the future of their children — guardianship and financial provision in unforeseen circumstances.
  • Empty nesters may need guidance in minimizing taxes or helping to launch their young adult children.
  • Senior adults may have concerns about tax implications and stewardship of their estate as well as the best ways to gift their children and grandchildren.
Adults of all ages and stages of life are invited to attend Biblical Principles of Estate Planningled by Robert Kuck of PhilanthroCorp. Houston’s First partners with PhilanthroCorp, a nonprofit organization, to provide free estate planning to our congregation.

Biblical Foundations Newsletter July 13, 2019

Bible Study Houston, Biblical Foundations
Class Memory Verse July 2019
Sunday we were blessed by four of our class members: Bruce and Dee Dee Fincher, John Markle, and Charles Poor.  Each one presented to our class their experiences while seeking God's will.

Bruce and Dee Dee Fincher shared how through her journey with cancer God has opened doors to opportunities to serve Him.   One such opportunity is through a blog site that Dee Dee has been sharing her experiences which has provided encouragement to others.  You can visit and follow Dee Dee's blog here: http://deedeefincher.blogspot.com/

John Markle shared his "Amazing Journey" by presenting several examples of how God changed John's plans and placed him into service in ways he never dreamed of.  One such example: John had a desire to learn the Spanish language and after accumulating enough skill was ready to launch out into his first mission opportunity during the Houston Project aka Mission 1:8 to serve in the Spanish speaking community.  Well, The Lord had other plans as John found himself serving a community of Sudanese, his newly developed skill would have to wait.   He did later find a opportunity to put his new language skills to service during a mission trip to Guatemala.   It was during that trip John was asked to serve in Guatemalan prison  evangelism.   This experience put John on a path of serving in prison ministry to this day in our own community.

Dr. Charles Poor provided some very inspiring insights into his life's journey and how seeking God's will placed him into service in what was at the time a new field: Christian Psychology.  It was while on a summer college life retreat to Falls Creek in the Arbuckle Mountains of Oklahoma, Charles sought The Lord's will for his life.  Charles asked to spend the night away from the crowd, alone in his car seeking The Lord's direction for his life.  It was at that time The Lord gave him the insight to prepare for serving in what was this newly developing field of Christian Psychology.  Clearly, his career has included many exciting adventures and has been full of The Lord's blessings:  Treating nearly 30,000 cases while on staff at Baylor College of Medicine and assisting in the establishment of (clickable link) HFBC's Julianna Poor Memorial Counseling Center
Charles provided a handout which can be read below:

Biblical Foundations Newsletter July 6, 2019

Houston's First has a heart for missions and evangelism — for sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others. For over 20 years, Houston 1:8 has provided the Houston's First family with an opportunity to be missionaries right here in our own city. If you’re participating, please let us know so we can make sure we can lift you up in prayer. If you’re not – make sure you pray for all the people participating this week. So many lives will be touched during this time.  Please share your experiences this week with pictures and stories!

In Sunday's lesson Chris presented his 5th lesson on 2 Corinthians 10-13 entitled: "Spiritual Authority". The content and lesson was full of insights into how Paul's servant leadership is a model of how to build a community pleasing to our Lord. Chris' full lesson is available on Radio Public podcast below, as well as the outline notes and presentation:

Once God makes that difference in your life, you are ready to go in Jesus’ name to play your part in changing the world. Are you ready to jump in? Are you ready to make the Difference Maker Declaration?
