Urgent Prayer Request September 24, 2019

Isaan in Need

It all began on Friday August 30 when tropical storm Podul blew across the Philippines, crossed Vietnam and Laos, and then marched across NE Thailand. The storm blew hard and dropped heavy rains for a period of about 20 hours on Isaan, including Yasothon where we live. This storm having passed, a second storm named Kajiki was waiting in the wings. Kajiki blew in on Monday with very heavy rains for as many hours, though little wind by the time it reached Thailand.

The result of these back to back tropical storms along with subsequent heavy rains, has been extensive flooding across the Northeast. Dams have been opened to release water and the resulting flow of water has caused major waterways to overflow into surrounding rice farmland. Thousands have been displaced from their homes with whole villages underwater. Especially hard hit was the province of Ubon Ratchathani, about an hour from us. (See picture right of flooded rice areas along the Mun River in Ubon).
Flood waters have been receding slowly over the last week, but many areas remain flooded and many people still cannot return to their homes. The Isaan Team is mobilizing to assist flooded families with packets of basic food necessities (see photo at bottom). We are taking bags to families in need and are waiting for water to recede to enter an area especially devastated. This area is just outside of our city of Yasothon.

Please Pray
We have arranged with the village headmen of local villages to deliver hundreds of bags of goods to as many households. 

Attention: Please pray now and on your Tuesday evening as we will be sharing help with flood victims and proclaiming the message of Christ with numerous people beginning at 10:00 AM Wednesday here (10 PM Tuesday CDT).

Please pray that those displaced and suffering loss will be able to return to their normal life soon.

Pray for open hearts during this time as people are sensing need and that their religion doesn't provide the answers.

Pray discernment and open doors for the start of new ongoing work of evangelism and church planting in this area which is a goal for our team as our national partners are working in that area.

We appreciate you and know we can count on you to call out to the Lord for the inconvenienced and suffering people all over NE Thailand, and for this important ministry opportunity.

Since not all of you may be informed, I want to share about this exciting and unexpected opportunity that I have been working on since January of this year. It is a Women's Ministry project to equip Christian women in the Middle East and North Africa.
The project is under the umbrella of Ananias House.

 Mission: Equip MENA women to be godly, competent, and confident leaders in their church.
Our current project includes 40 women leaders from Syria, Turkey, Egypt, and Lebanon. Trainings are held in Beirut, Lebanon.

The theme this year is “Ignite the Fire!” and we’ll unpack it together in three keynote sessions and some impactful Ignite Group sessions where men of all ages connect together.
Our retreat speaker for the weekend will be Kenny Luck, the Pastor at Crossline Church in Laguna Hills, CA.
The prayer is that every man will discover:
  • a refined vision for his life
  • a restored commitment to courageous living
  • a renewed connection with each other
  • a set of practical tools to journey ahead

Sunday, we had a guest teacher: Judge Harvey Brown.  Our teacher Chris Martin was in London moving his daughter into her new campus dorm room.  That was after the week before driving a U-Haul cross country to move his son into his new campus apartment in California!  Harvey treated us to a wonderful lesson about encouragement as illustrated by Barnabus.  In addition we were treated by Bruce Fincher to recipe cards for Dee Dee's Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe.  If you missed out here is the recipe:

Prayer update on Bob Varnadoe:
Our class has been praying for Bob since January of this year as our dear friend and class member June Hamilton has so faithfully presented prayer needs for Bob along with their daughter Lanette and son Brian.  Bob  had been diagnosed with Frontal Lobe Deterioration due to strokes which he suffered over past 2 years.  Bob passed away peacefully at home and resting in the arms of Jesus.  To read more, CLICK HERE
