A Legacy of Love and Faith

Our hearts are with Ben Pritchett as we gather to honor the life of his beloved wife, Kathy.

A memorial service celebrating Kathy Pritchett’s life will be held at HFBC on Wednesday, June 4 at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Gregg Matte delivering the message of comfort and hope.

Kathy was a woman of deep faith, quiet strength, and abiding love. Her life touched many in our church family and beyond, and her memory will continue to inspire us.

Please join us in remembering Kathy and surrounding Ben with prayer and support as we reflect on the eternal hope we have in Christ.

When We Pray:
A Sacred Hour Around the Tables

This past Sunday, our Foundations class gathered for a sacred hour of united prayer, drawing from the Lord’s Prayer as our guide. Six tables became six sanctuaries of reflection — each focused on a powerful phrase from Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 6.

It was a moving time of spiritual alignment — with heads bowed and hands opened — as we sought His kingdom first and declared: “Your will be done… on earth as it is in heaven.” What a blessing to be a praying people.

Let’s carry the spirit of this hour into our week, walking forward in faith, forgiveness, and dependence on our gracious God.

Colossians Unveiled:
Why Christ Is All We Need

This Sunday, we’re kicking off our Summer Colossians Study with a powerful introduction led by Richard and Trish Battle. In this first lesson, we’ll explore the rich background of Paul’s letter to the church in Colossae—written while Paul was imprisoned in Rome around AD 61–63. Though penned centuries ago, his message remains profoundly relevant.

You won’t want to miss this incredible start to our study in Colossians!

Living the Cross-Shaped Life:
A Final Word on the Ten Commandments
Carol Pierce closed out our Ten Commandments series with wisdom, humor, and a deep challenge: Are we living lives that reflect both love for God and love for others?

Drawing from Exodus, Matthew, and her own experiences—including a front-yard encounter that became a divine appointment—Carol reminded us that the Ten Commandments are not just ancient laws, but eternal truths designed to shape our relationships vertically with God and horizontally with others. As she shared, “What does that make? A cross.”

Carol emphasized that obedience isn’t about legalism—it’s our love responding to grace. From honoring difficult parents to guarding our speech, from Sabbath rhythms to the unseen ways we steal from God, each commandment points us toward a deeper walk of faithfulness.

And in the end, Jesus summed it up perfectly: “Love the Lord your God… and love your neighbor as yourself.” These two commands, Carol said, wrap up all the rest.

Let us not forget: the Ten Commandments are not just rules—they’re memorial stones, a path to freedom, and an invitation to walk in obedience that reflects the heart of God.

A Time to Pray:
United in Spirit, Guided by His Word

This Sunday, our Foundations Class will pause our regular study to enter into something deeply powerful—united prayer.

We’ll gather around six tables, each one reflecting on a different phrase of the Lord’s Prayer from Matthew 6:9–13. Through scripture, conversation, and intercession, we will lift up our class, our church, and our hearts to our Heavenly Father.

This time is not just about words—it’s about worship.
It’s not about performance—it’s about presence.

As we pray “Our Father who art in heaven…” we’ll remember we are part of a greater family, called to seek His kingdom, His will, and His provision—together.

Whether you’ve prayed a thousand times or feel unsure where to begin, your voice matters.

Let’s come with reverence. Let’s come with unity. Let’s come expecting God to move.

Join us this Sunday as we align our hearts with heaven—and lift our class and church before the throne of grace.

Why We’re Here: A Timely Reflection on Our Purpose

In the rhythm of weekly gatherings, it’s easy to forget our deeper purpose. But our Life Bible Study class exists for more than fellowship — we are here to:
Reach. Teach. Win. Disciple.

This mission aligns directly with Jesus’ Great Commission:
“Go and make disciples of all nations…” (Matthew 28:19–20).

We’re called to action — not passivity.
We’re here to Reach the lost, Teach truth, Win hearts, and Disciple one another in Christ.

This week, ask God to place one person on your heart to reach out to — with a text, a visit, an invitation to class, or a prayer. Make the mission personal.

Let’s not just attend class — let’s live the Commission.
Life Bible Study: Where purpose meets action.

When Enough Is Enough: Confronting the Heart of Coveting- Lesson Recap:

Sunday May 11th, Bill Wright delivered a compelling lesson to the Foundations Class on the Tenth Commandment—Bill brings wisdom, warmth, and conviction to Exodus 20:17—“You shall not covet.” This powerful lesson reminds us that coveting goes beyond wanting what others have; it’s a deeper issue of believing that what God has given isn't enough.

Through vivid stories and rich biblical insight, we explore how discontentment fuels destructive choices, and how gratitude, trust, and joy in the Lord anchor us in lasting peace. From King David to Solomon, scripture shows us the cost of misplaced desire—and the freedom of godly contentment.

Bill reminds us: “Godliness with contentment is great gain.” — 1 Timothy 6:6

Let this lesson now on video (below) challenge you to find joy not in more, but in surrender.

Don’t Miss the Grand Finale: Carol Pierce Leads Our Ten Commandments Wrap-Up

This Sunday marks the final step in our powerful journey through the Ten Commandments—and you won’t want to miss it. Carol Pierce will lead us in a heartfelt wrap-up lesson that brings the entire series into focus.

More than a review, this will be a time of reflection, renewal, and rejoicing as we consider how God’s commands are not burdens, but blessings—guiding us to live with purpose, integrity, and joy. Whether you’ve been here for every lesson or are jumping in for the first time, this is the perfect moment to reconnect and be reminded of the beauty of God’s design for our lives.

Come ready to be encouraged, challenged, and inspired as we celebrate all that God has taught us through His Word. Let’s finish strong—together.

Special thanks to Beth Chow for bringing back this treasured resource—a poetic rendering of the Ten Commandments written by former HFBC pastor, Brother John R. Bisagno. Originally shared with members years ago, this creative piece continues to speak with clarity and conviction. As we near the end of our study on Exodus 20:3–17, it’s a timely reminder that God’s truth endures—and His commands are as relevant today as ever. Thank you, Beth, for helping us rediscover this meaningful legacy!

CAUTION! That TEXT Wasn’t From Us
This week, some class members received a group text using the name Biblical Foundations with a cross as its profile image. At first glance, it seemed like it could be connected to our Foundations Life Bible Study at Houston’s First Baptist Church — but it wasn’t.

We don’t own the name “Biblical Foundations,” so we can’t prevent others from using it. But we want to be clear: that message didn’t come from our class or leadership team. It’s a reminder of how easily someone can imitate a trusted source and mislead others — and it ties directly into this month’s study of the Ten Commandments.  Exodus 20:16 warns us not to bear false witness.

When someone misrepresents who they are or implies they speak for someone they don’t — that’s exactly what happens. In a world full of “fake news,” even something as small as a misleading group text can be a real-world example of this sin.

When in doubt, confirm it’s from us. All official class communication will come from known leaders and trusted methods. If you’re unsure — just ask! Let’s be people of truth in all things — both in what we say and in what we forward.

The Way. The Truth. The Life.

Let’s Walk Boldly Through May—Together—with John 14:6

FOUNDATIONS CLASS MEMORY VERSE – MAY

"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” — John 14:6

In a world filled with detours and distractions, Jesus gives us direction that’s unmistakable and unshakable:

“I am the way and the truth and the life.”

This verse isn’t just a personal reminder—it’s a shared foundation for us as a class. Together, let’s take this truth to heart and commit it to memory.

🔹 The Way – for when we’re unsure which path to take
🔹 The Truth – for the moments when clarity feels far away
🔹 The Life – for the days we long for more than the ordinary

Let’s take the challenge as a class:
📖 Memorize John 14:6 during the month of May.
Recite it. Reflect on it. Live it—together.

As we hide God’s Word in our hearts, we grow not only closer to Christ but stronger as a community.

Let’s encourage one another and press on—united in truth, grounded in grace, walking in the Way.

He Sees You: El Roi — The God Who Notices Every Step

This month’s powerful Name of God focus is El Roi“The God Who Sees Me.” Inspired by Hagar’s encounter in the wilderness (Genesis 16:13), this name reminds us that God’s gaze is never distracted, distant, or dismissive.

El Roi sees what others miss.
He sees our heartache, our faithfulness, our silent prayers, and our daily obedience.

The image above—an eye framed in color and depth—is more than a painting. It’s a reminder of divine awareness. As we memorize John 14:6 this May, let’s anchor our confidence in this truth:

The God who is The Way also sees our way.

Genesis 16:13
So she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, “You are a God of seeing,” for she said, “Truly here I have seen him who looks after me.”

Theft, Trust, and the Hidden Heart — A Lesson That Stole Our Attention - Lesson Recap:

Sunday April 27Rand Wall challenged us to see Exodus 20:15—"You shall not steal"—through a much wider lens. In his eye-opening lesson, “Theft, Trust, and the Hidden Heart,” we discovered that stealing isn’t just about money or possessions—it’s about robbing time, peace, honor, and even God’s glory.

From public scandals to private habits, Rand walked us through how theft often begins not with action, but with attitude—a heart that whispers, “God hasn’t given me enough.”

Whether it’s stealing credit, withholding generosity, or living like we own what God has entrusted, Rand reminded us:Holiness is honest stewardship.

And through the story of Zacchaeus, we were reminded that grace transforms takers into givers.

Missed the lesson? Don’t just catch up—let it catch your heart. This one’s worth revisiting.

TRUTH ON TRIAL: This Sunday’s Lesson You Can’t Miss

This Sunday, Reagan Brunelle will open Exodus 20:16. It isn’t just about lying—it’s about protecting the reputation, dignity, and legacy of your neighbor.

From ancient courtrooms to HOA meetings, the damage of false witness is real. Join us this Sunday as we unpack:
“Truth on Trial: Living Honestly in a World of Half-Truths.”

Don’t just tell the truth. Be a truth-bearer.

This lesson might just be the most relevant commandment of all—especially in a world drowning in noise.
